Sun 9/27 – Sun 10/4 Edible Eat*Drink*Local Week Various East End Restaurants

Just in time for harvest season, Greenmarket and Edible magazines present the first annual Edible Eat • Drink • Local Week to celebrate the farmers, artisans and chefs who fill our bellies, green our region and enrich our lives. All week long, partner restaurants in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and on the East End will showcase the mouthwatering bounty of local food and drink--as a prix fixe, a special entrĂ©e, a dessert, or a pairing with a wine, beer, or spirit made in New York State. At the end of the week, they will make voluntary contributions to Greenmarket, a program of the Council on the Environment of New York City, to benefit its Youth Education Project, which works to teach and nurture the eaters of tomorrow. You can help by dining out and digging in at one of these great eateries. Selected hotels, wine and beer bars, wine and spirits shops, and other partners are also offering promotions for the week. Participating East End restaurants include Rowdy Hall, Almond, Red Bar Brasserie, Oso, Foody’s, Town Line BBQ, Nick & Toni’s, Estia, Beacon, and more. THE WATERMILL CENTER 39 Watermill Town Road, Water Mill, NY 11976 631.726.4628

Joshua Seidner’s “Powderburn” – A Work in Progress 7:00 pm Free

The emerging French-American writer-actor Seidner kicks off the Watermill Center's fall season this month with a residency developing "Powderburn," a theatrical work in which criminal tongues, death matches, and old-world machismo are set against the corruption of the 21st century. Named after a racial slur for blackness, "Powderburn" draws on the slang and languages, traditions, dances and fighting forms of Russia, Israel, Turkey, the Middle East and Latin America to explore "otherness" in America. The piece follows one man from his sun-scorched, war-torn homeland to an unnamed country in which cultures clash in cracked basements, men become brothers and then enemies, and a vicious class system turns him into an exoticized, eroticized, animal-like performer. The performance will be held at The Watermill Center, 39 Watermill Towd Road, Water Mill. Admission: Free, RSVP required. Reservations: joshuaseidner.eventbrite.com. Advisory: Performance includes male nudity and adult content.

Katharina D. Martin’s Forest Time 7:00 pm Free

In a residency taking place September 22–October 4, the German-born, Rotterdam-based performance and video artist Katharina D. Martin takes advantage of the Watermill Center’s unique locale, in addition to its resources for interdisciplinary work. Entitled Forest Time, her project will entail her living, glamorously dressed throughout, in the woods surrounding the facility—and filming herself over the course of several days. She will be fully attired like a Marilyn Monroe-esque female icon, with a fresh manicure, makeup, evening wear, and high heels. She will carry out traditionally feminine activities, in addition to acts of survival and play, while living outdoors at Watermill. As she inhabits this striking incongruity—dressed up in artifice in a natural environment—Martin will reveal the absurdity of classic signifiers of glamorous femininity. This event is an opportunity to see Martin's work-in-progress, captured via video, to the general public.
